about
Christian Borger is an artist and architectural designer based in Boston, MA. He received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Boston Architectural College in 2018, and was awarded the Undergraduate Degree Project Prize.
Christian’s work delves deeply into exploring and expressing unlikely relationships between materials, methods of craft, and choreographed assembly - often taking form through furniture, structural studies, objects, and architecture.
His current body of work, titled “ULTRA-LIGHT”, rigorously explores how resources, material, assembly, and performance can define a unified process of making. Rather than allowing form and aesthetic to dictate method, the works are solely the result of limited material use, simple tools, and efficient assemblies. Common furniture and objects are used as “vessels” for the idea - testing the limits of the system while attempting to solve challenges of human interaction, perception, comfort, and performance. “ULTRA-LIGHT” describes not just weight, but the lightness found within each stage of the process choreography that defines the body of work.
